Brooches [Oct. 29th, 2008|10:17 am]
Julianna Swan
Thank you all for your kind Birthday wishes!

These are some new things I've been working on, forever it seems!

It took some figuring out but I think I'm finally pretty happy with the final product. I didn't want to make pendants, because I don't wear them and why would I sell something I wouldn't want myself? But I wanted them to be a little more special than just having a clasp on the back, plus I think the 'cameo' hanging from the ribbon looks more Victorian to me (is there a special name for this kind of brooch?). The ribbon on these is new, but now that I have all that vintage ribbon I can use that for the next batch!
I'm not really sure what's the best way to photograph them. What do you think of these pictures?
I'm going to try to get these in the shop by friday buuuut this week is a little nuts so they may not make it in until Monday.

Bits and Bobbins [Oct. 27th, 2008|07:23 pm]
Julianna Swan

Yesterday Anja and I went to this gigantic Antique sale at the Portland Expo Center. I went to the one they had in July so I knew what to expect but it still left my head spinning, there was just so much! Most of it out of my price range, but that's okay, I like to just go and look and see what strange wonderful things are in the world. This time I had a mission for buttons, velvet ribbon, and as always trade cards/paper ephemera (because I am addicted to it!), and I did pretty good. I got a lot of mixed bags and jars of buttons as well as a ribbon grab, so much fun to pick though. And I found some really funny paper scraps as well, I have a pretty good collection going at this point. If anyone ever wants to come over and look though my boxes of Victorian advertising paper scraps you are more than welcome to.
Go to Anja's blog so see some pictures from the show!

The goods, and some other thingsCollapse )

Tomorrow is my birthday so I am going to have some pancakes and bloody marys! Then it is Anja's birthday! And then Halloween. RIght now Gossip Girl!

Pumpkin carving [Oct. 24th, 2008|09:14 pm]
Julianna Swan

Rebecca, Graham, and I carved pumpkins last night and roasted the seeds. I used to always try to be fancy with my pumpkin carving but now I'm a big fan of the classic simple ones.

Shop Update Friday! [Oct. 21st, 2008|09:42 am]
Julianna Swan

I'm going to update the shop this Friday! For real this time, I keep making plans to and then putting it off, but I'm just about done with everything I had hopped to update with, including these two framed pieces. I'm really happy that I decided to embellish them with a hanging ribbon, I think they look very sharp!
Actually, most of the pieces for the update are originals, I wanted to do a few new prints, but I've been having a terrible time getting paper from Mr. Dick Blick. One time it just never appeared, though it said it was delivered, and they've been sold out of 'natural' forever! Hopefully it will come in soon and I'll have them for the next update.

I used to make thaumatropes in college, they're so fun. It's pretty hard to get a photo of the whole picture, so it will be sort of a surprise!

I always travel by balloon [Oct. 20th, 2008|10:18 pm]
Julianna Swan

Sigh, I need to redo my website at some point soon (have someone help me redo it actually). It's bothering me lately! I'm not really sure what to do about it though, it's so hard to keep current.

Cornbread and butter beans [Oct. 19th, 2008|08:40 pm]
Julianna Swan

The other day Rebecca and I made a trip to Suavie Island get pumpkins and things. It was misty and ominous but very beautiful, and of course we got caramel apples!
This week was so action packed. Parties, driving, concerts, even food poisoning! I saw Sarah Vowell and Jolie Holland. I drove around the city and close-by countryside, I got a haircut, I voted. I visited with people and I even managed to get some work done. The week actually started out being pretty bad, I'm happy I was able to fill it with so much that was good.

Originals [Oct. 15th, 2008|10:19 am]
Julianna Swan

Hey everyone, I just thought I'd let you know that I now have originals for sale over at the The Shiny Squirrel! If you've been interested in anything you've seen me post here recently you might want to take a look, I think they are extremely reasonably priced, I wanted people to be able to buy some affordable originals.

I may sneak some things in my shop today, I've been pretty sick and low energy all weekend and week though so I don't know if I will be posting as much as I had planed. I feel better though! I need to get out for a fall walk this morning!

Everything at sixes and sevens [Oct. 6th, 2008|08:04 am]
Julianna Swan
Thank you all for your nice comments about the last house drawing! Here are a few more new ones

I also wanted to let you know that I'm having a Sale in the shop! The whole month of October select prints are half off.

I'd like to get rid of some old things before I add new ones, I'm thinking of having a poll you can vote on which drawings should be made into prints. What do you think of that?

More new drawings [Sep. 26th, 2008|10:16 pm]
Julianna Swan

These are from last week (for newer things visit my drawing blog: ohmycavalier.blogspot.com). I've been alternating locking myself in my room for day long stretches painting tiny hairs on little animals, and crocheting a million hexagons for an afghan I'm trying to finish by winter. My right hand is starting to feel burnt out.

More? [Sep. 24th, 2008|07:36 am]
Julianna Swan

Yumm, I bought concord grapes at New Seasons yesterday. I may have to go get more because I just saw a recipe for concord grape jelly and they are almost gone. Rebecca made soup last night so the house smells very cozy.
