This is sort of out of the blue but what can you do: [May. 11th, 2008|12:07 pm]
Next week I’m taking a little trip to Portland Orego to go apartment hunting!

I guess it’s really happening! I know every six months or so I announce I’m moving somewhere, and it always come to nothing, but this time plane tickets are bought and I have a roommate. I’m oscillating between excitement and extreme terror and self-doubt! I think it’s a good move though, I’ve wanted to move to the West coast since before college, and I love the Pacific Northwest. Plus I know it will be good for me to get out on my own again and be around more people my own age who have interests in art and literature, and to stop being such a recluse for a little while. I can start that up again when I’m an old lady.

I’d like to know: Do any of you living in Portland know of any two bedroom apartments available, OR do you know of anyone looking to two nice quiet female roommates? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! (I should say I have been checking craigslist, but if you have any inside knowledge about places that aren't listed yet, are nice, and are close to public transport, etc that would be fantastic!)

Stormy [May. 8th, 2008|07:16 pm]

Two illustrations I did as part of a commission. I don't think either is going to be used, but I like how they turned out.

The Whalesong Project [May. 8th, 2008|12:12 am]

Now you can listen in live to whales singing in the waters around Hawaii.
(it's pretty quiet right now, I think the season is ending, but I'm going to keep this link near by)

neo-baroque [May. 7th, 2008|01:48 pm]
I recently discovered the fantastic architecture drawings of Achilles Rizzoli, and I am enjoying them very much. He drew representations of people he knew as buildings. I love all the writing. I wish I could find more to share that were the right size, but google his name and you'll find some more.

There is a little article about Little Paper Planes in Nylon magazine this month, and they used one of my prints! Thanks Kelly!

It feels like Friday [May. 1st, 2008|10:08 am]

I updated the shop this morning with some new things such as these postcards. I'm really excited about them, they look great.

The busy summer starts this weekend! I'm leaving for a week at my sisters in New Hampshire on Saturday. I have sooo much to do, I feel completely unprepared to be gone for a week! So I'm going to spend today doing things like catch up on feedback, packaging orders (whose idea was it to do a shop update right before I leave?), work on some cards I'm trying to ready for wholesale, clean, do laundry. When I get back I'll only be home for a week before I'm off again, so I also want to go shopping and try to get some fancy luggage to ease the pain of flying. I want this luggage, and I want it bad (specifically the red option upright and round carryon). Alas that price tag! Why is everything I like always the most expensive!

Okay, back to work!

Le Renard et l'enfant [Apr. 26th, 2008|03:57 pm]

This movie looks like it was made for me! (Here is the trailer)

Well, okay fine. A few months ago I deleted my myspace account and I was feeling pretty good about it. But, I'm having a busy summer and I decided it was a good way to spam people with news about upcoming shows and other work/art related tidbits. So I'm back!
& please add me if I haven't found you already!

Trade cards [Apr. 25th, 2008|10:18 am]

Here are the trade cards I got last weekend, I'm especially happy with them, they're so funny!

A few more... )

And I just realized something today! I totally slept though the shop update I was supposed to have on Tuesday! I can't believe that happened, I really thought I had another week! I'm really sorry if anyone was waiting for it and wondering what happened. To be fair though I did spend part of that day at the Dr. with one of my eyes all red and swollen shut, so I had some other things on my mind. However, a shop update is coming! This gives me a little more time to get some other things ready. The revised shop update is for Thursday May 1st! And I promise I'll be there!

More sketches... [Apr. 19th, 2008|03:06 pm]

I love this guy. I used to not be able to draw faces, especially in profile, but after about a year of practice I actually feel like I can draw a half way interesting face now. (His sign isn't really going to say that, I just wrote something in quickly, I'll probably turn into a card.)

Friday friday! [Apr. 18th, 2008|11:05 am]

Apparently there was an earthquake in the Midwest last night, and of course I slept right though it! There has been one other during my lifetime that could be felt in Michigan, and I slept through that one as well. So unfair, I've never felt one!

The birds are singing like mad today, I think spring is really here this time. It's promising to be a very busy summer!

Coughing Thunder Sneezing Rain [Apr. 15th, 2008|08:45 pm]
I’ve been reading about forest or feral children. I'm more interested in them symbolically than literally and I always imagine them covered in hair for some reason, perhaps as a kind of outer manifestation of their wildness and connection to nature. I was trying to make them strange and sort of unsetting and I think they are. I worked on a few ways to represent that and some ways worked out better than others. They sort of stared out as human bodies covered or clothed in hair but that’s morphed into a more PT Barnum wolf-man (probably inspired by a great book I have about Barnum, though it happened pretty organically). So the two below are the most recent.

Some sketches [Apr. 3rd, 2008|10:45 pm]

I have been listening to a lot of Canadian radio since January, CBC radio 2. They have nice music shows and great hosts as well all day long. It's a nice break from all-day NPR. I wake up every morning and have my tea with Music & Company, which is classical music hosted by an extremely cheery man. It puts me in a good mood every morning, which is a good way for me to start out believe me because I always seem to end the day in high dudgeon. Sadly though I heard they're going to be changing the schedule and getting rid of all my favorite day time shows in September! What will I do? how will I get out of bed!

Ephemera [Mar. 31st, 2008|10:02 am]

We went to a rummage sale over the weekend. Mostly it was junk but I did get this old music book from 1885 that was filled with pictures, here is a selection of some of my favorites:

Another week, another new blanket of snow! [Mar. 28th, 2008|10:22 am]

Thanks to This and This I am all out of the little reading wolves Gocco prints. I'm thinking of printing a new edition on a different color of paper. Is that a bad thing to do? I feel like it's okay since my edition sizes are so small (around 36), and the color really changes the image. Plus, it's not like they are $1000 etchings, I want more people to be able to own one if they like the image!

If this were a fairy tale world we would be in the grip of some sort of evil snow queen! Still it's sunny and beautiful, and if the flowers aren't popping up outside yet, well, we have enough hyacinth and daffodils inside to tide us over for a while.
